upon preparing for an interview for a service leadership program i signed up for, i watched a video documentary about the underprivileged people in hong kong. it showed a wealthy man, going to experience the poverty life in an area called Shum shui po, for 5 days. he was required to do labour work (e.g. clearing rubbish). and he was given a daily allowance of HKD50. the living conditions are so terrible that you feel bad even just from watching. and it made my single-room-made-into-a-double-room feel like a house.
no hot water, bed bugs, no fan (electricity is expensive), room consists of a bed - that's all,
the video made me teary eyed.
i think its important to constantly remind yourself that your life, despite all the in-satisfaction and complaints you have, is already a hundred, a
thousand times better than those of many people around you.
